Personal Counselling

Most people experience difficulties or frustrations in their life. Usually, such experiences can be seen as just part of the rub of life, something to learn from or adapt to, and carry on. Occasionally, however, such experiences can knock the wind out of us and come to dominate and affect how we live and feel. Sometimes, we need help.

Counselling provides the opportunity to talk about your life and to explore any difficulties that you may be experiencing.

The aim of counselling or therapy is to help people to grow and change emotionally, physically, intellectually and spiritually. I will help you to develop your potential for greater self-understanding and self-acceptance, and to move toward a more effective, fulfilling life - including the ability to form and sustain satisfying and mutually meaningful relationships.

I believe that you are the person who is best able to understand your situation and to make decisions that are right for you. The core of my approach is to provide a therapeutic relationship characterised by empathy, respect and genuineness, through which deep personal exploration is possible.

As a professional counsellor since 1985, I have many years experience of helping clients whose lives have been affected by specific difficulties or concerns, including: relationship problems; depression and suicidal feelings; anxiety, phobias and stress; eating disorders and other health matters; drugs and substance misuse; bereavement and loss; sexuality and gender; personal identity and spiritual crisis. New developments in Positive Psychology and Neuro-Psychology indicate the relevance of focusing on each individual’s strengths, and I incorporate this into all of my client work.
