About Me: Peter Rawlings
I have been a professional counsellor since 1985 working in the South West of England. Initially I was the Manager for Off The Record Youth Counselling Service (now known as "Connections" in Swindon), after which I worked for NCH Share - Taunton - as a Young People's Counsellor specialising in Drug Dependence and HIV. Since 1993 my client work has been with individuals seeing me privately and this has been complemented by seven years as a counsellor in two G.P. surgeries in Somerset and as a Student Counsellor at the Royal Holloway College in Egham, Surrey. I have, in addition, extensive experience as a Counselling Supervisor - a role enhanced by my 1993 M.Sc. in Counselling, Supervision and Training (University of Bristol).
I am also an experienced trainer. From 1993 to 2004 I was a core tutor for the Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling at the University of Bristol (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy Accredited training) and have many years experience as a trainer in personal development. Workshops and seminars include: On Being Congruent; The Transpersonal in Counselling; Paradise Island Discs (Music and Meaning); Optimal Therapy: An Introduction to Positive Psychology for Counsellors; Positive Dreams; the Self-Managing Team; Counselling Skills for Teachers and Pastoral Staff; Listening and the Empathic Imagination. Since 1993 I have also taught Army officers in Effective Listening as part of their training to be Unit Welfare Officers.
I develop positive interventions for individuals and groups based on the theories of Positive Psychology, Person-Centred Theory, and Emotional Intelligence.
I specialise in mentoring & coaching, counselling & counselling supervision and the broader spectrum of human relations issues. I focus on the application of psychologically sophisticated techniques to facilitate personal insight and creative change.
I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), a member of the Association of Humanistic Practitioners (AHP), a Certified Trainer for the EQ Map (Essi Systems, QMetrics, USA), a Graduate of the evidence-based Authentic Happiness Coaching Programme (USA) based on the principles developed by Dr. Marty Seligman, and I have a special interest in developing positive strengths-based organisations and businesses.
I am supported in my work by a back-up team of fully qualified psychologists and counsellors with many years experience of helping individuals and groups live a more satisfying life ‚ both personally and professionally.
I am also Director of Procounsel Associates Ltd. Procounsel specialises in team and organisational development and training in human relations issues. Click on the link above for more information.
In 2006 I assisted on a number of business clinics in the South West as a Family Business Consultant for the International Centre for Families in Business (ICFiB).
